This lentil and sausage dish was recommended to me by a friend. Well, she recommended it without the sausages, but I thought a bit of meat would go well with it 🙂. Anyway, you can leave out the sausages and make it a vegan recipe. I admit, I hadn’t cooked lentils before. This was my first time, and I approached the recipe with quite a bit of skepticism. But guess what? When I tasted it for the first time, I actually liked it, even though I was ready to grimace at a new flavor.
It’s also quite easy to prepare. I think you can make a very tasty and fairly healthy dinner in about an hour without any problems. Okay, the sausages are less healthy, but they’re worth it. Lentils taste very similar to beans but cook much faster. Here, you’ll find a great bean and sausage recipe.
Let’s take a look together and see what it’s all about!
Lentils with sausage
Equipment
Ingredients
500 g red lentils I used red lentils
1 red onion
4 garlic cloves
500 g pork sausages
2 carrots
1 tbsp tomato paste
Instructions
- First, we wash the lentils thoroughly and put them to boil. For 500g of lentils, we use about 1 liter of water. We also added a little olive oil to the water. I used red lentils, which cook the fastest. It boiled in about 10 – 15 minutes.
- While the lentils are boiling, we fry the sausages. You can either leave them whole or cut them into smaller pieces, depending on your preference. It also depends on the type of sausages you bought.
- After frying the sausages, we take them out and set them aside. In the remaining oil, we sauté the finely chopped vegetables: garlic, onion, and carrot. Once the vegetables have softened and started to change color, we can add the boiled lentils and a little tomato paste to give it a redder color. We can either add the sausages directly into the pot or place them on the plate when serving. This dish goes very well with pickles. It's similar to a bean and sausage stew.Enjoy it!
