I really enjoy stewed green beans with garlic. To be honest, I think it would go well with a bit of meat, too :). Of course, we could always add some sausages or at least some chicken. But in the end, it’s a light, meat-free dish (for those interested in fasting) that’s also very tasty. You could also make it with sour cream and eggs, but that’s a different recipe. The important thing is to use the freshest beans possible, and ideally, ones without strings. If they do have strings, no problem—we just need to clean them carefully. In the end, the final result is what matters. Let’s get started!

Stewed green (or yellow) beans with garlic
Sauté chopped onion, add green beans and simmer with water and salt until tender. Prepare a garlic sauce (mujdei) separately. Serve the green beans hot with garlic sauce and optional black pepper.

Easy
Equipment

1 large pot
Ingredients
1 kg green beans or yellow
2 heads of garlic
3 onions
50 ml sunflower oil
Instructions
- We remove the strings from the green beans and snap off the ends. Be sure to discard any beans that are damaged or spoiled. After cleaning them, wash the beans thoroughly and set them aside.
- Peel the onion, wash it, and chop it finely. Heat it with some oil in a large pot (as the green beans will take up quite a bit of space before they cook down). Once the onion is softened, add the green beans and pour in two or three cups of water. Let them simmer on low heat, covered. Add salt to taste. Toward the end, you can remove the lid and let them cook for a few more minutes until the liquid reduces to your desired level.
- Separately, prepare a garlic sauce as described in this recipe. Serve the dish hot, pouring the garlic sauce over it. You can also add freshly ground black pepper to taste. Enjoy!
